The monograph published by the Orange Print printing house in Bishkek is devoted to monitoring and analyzing the processes of collapse of numerous slopes that occur in the form of landslides which are the greatest danger in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan.
The book is a summary of the results of scientific research and instrumental monitoring of landslide processes carried out by the author together with the staff of the Scientific and Engineering Center “GEOPRIBOR” of the Institute of Geomechanics and Subsoil Development under the projects of fundamental research of the National Academy of Sciences and the tasks of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The monograph presents the materials of a detailed study and monitoring of landslides in the territory of Kyrgyzstan using advanced geophysical research methods and modern geoinformation technologies. The features of the development of landslide processes in the areas of former uranium mines in Mailuu-Suu, Min-Kush, in the area of coal deposits Kok-Zhangak, Kara-Keche, in the high-mountain Kumtor mine, near the main structures of the Kambarata cascade of hydroelectric power stations are considered. Technogenic factors of development and activation of landslide processes are revealed. The risks of direct and indirect consequences of landslide activity have been assessed. Attention is paid to the development factors of large seismogenic landslides, including landslides in the zone of loess rocks in the mountainous frame of the Fergana Valley, which are formed as a result of a complex interaction of seismotectonic, geological, hydrogeological and climatic factors. An analysis is given of the reasons for the mass activation of landslide processes and the occurrence of catastrophic landslides in high-water years. The trends of climate change in landslide-prone areas of Kyrgyzstan and their impact on the regime of landslide processes in the future are considered. The problems of landslide risk management in Kyrgyzstan are discussed. Practical recommendations are given on various measures to prevent and/or reduce landslide hazard for the population, economic facilities and infrastructure, including proposals for organizing, conducting landslide monitoring and its scientific support.
The publication is intended both for a wide range of specialists in the field of geosciences, and for specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic dealing with safety issues and reducing damage from natural and man-made disasters associated with landslides.
The book can serve as a textbook for the education sector in the process of teaching students of various engineering specialties, primarily geologists, mining engineers, geotechnicians, builders and road builders.
