Research expedition to Jalad-Abad, Talas, Chui, Issyk-Kul and Naryn regions is planned from May 16 to June 6, 2023 in order to study endemic and rare species of higher flowering plants within the framework of a long-term bilateral agreement between the Institute of Chemistry and Phytotechnology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Department of Plants of the University of Cambridge. During the expedition herbarium material will be collected as well as tissue samples will be taken for further molecular genetic research at the University of Cambridge. Also the seed stock and the collection of living plants of the Botanical Garden named after E. Gareev of the NAS KR will be replenished.
Researchers participating in the expedition: Brett Wilson (Ph/D), Margeaux Saran and Kathryn Grace from University of Cambridge; Shalpykov K.T., Director of the Institute of Chemistry and Phytotechnologies, corresponding member; Rogova N.A., Dolotbakov A.K., Uson uulu Chyngyz – researchers of the Institute, Lazkov G.A., professor of the Institute of Biology of the NAS KR; Sultangaziyev O. – from the Kyrgyz office of the international environmental organization “Fauna and Flora International”.
On May 16, 2023 the President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Corresponding Member Abdrakhmatov K. E. had a meeting with representatives the Department of Plants of the University of Cambridge. Issues of further scientific cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, plans to assist in the inventory and digitalization of the collection fund of the Botanical Garden named after E. Gareev NAS KR were discussed at the meeting.
