On May 18, 2023 the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic hosted a presentation of a scientific monograph by the famous ethnographer M.T. Aitbaev “Historical and ethnographic essay on the Kyrgyz based on materials from the north of Kyrgyzstan.” B.: Altyn-tamga, 2022.- 451 p.

More than 70 people took part in the presentation. From among scientists, historians, ethnographers, university professors, etc.

The history and economy, life, development of the material and spiritual culture of the population of Northern Kyrgyzstan, starting from joining the Russian Empire and the Soviet period are studied in the monograph of M.T. Aitbaev. Based on the analysis of materials drawn from a wide range of sources,  primarily from ethnographic field studies, the author himself was a direct participant in several ethnographic expeditions, archives, relevant scientific literature reveals the state of the Kyrgyz economy in the 19th – early 20th centuries, socio-economic relations among the Kyrgyz in XIX-early XX centuries, home and family life, folk knowledge. The work also reflects such issues as the hunting process of the Kyrgyz in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the food system and food of the Kyrgyz.

In this paper there is an archival and field material of the author, which is of particular interest and has not been previously introduced into scientific circulation. In the text of the work, they tried to preserve the author’s style, manner of presentation and originality of the design of references and footnotes of archival materials, scientific literature, according to the requirements and standards of that time.

The book is intended for teachers, students, specialists and anyone interested in ethnography and history.
