3^rd International scientific conference “Introduction, selection and conservation of plant biodiversity”  organized by the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Scientific research institution E. Gareev Botanical Garden of NAS KR (shortly SRI E. Gareev BG of NAS KR).

The plenary session was opened by greeting speeches of the acting director of SRI E. Gareev BG of NAS KR I. Hegai (Cand. Sc., biology), vice-president of NAS KR academician Ch. Arabaev, academician B. Toktoraliev, chair of chemical technology, medical biology and agricultural sciences department of NAS KR K. Shalpykov, director of Biology Institute of NAS KR, presidium member, professor Dj. Karabekov (Dr. Sci, biology), and director of E. Gareev Public Foundation G. Gareev.   

25 veterans were awarded with medals “Veterans of the Botanical Garden – 85 years”.

Guests of the conference, veterans and employees of SRI E. Gareev BG of NAS KR gave congratulatory speeches and exchanged memories.  

42 foreign and local scientists participated in the conference in person and in absentia, with publications of scientific articles in the conference catalogue. 3 represented the Republic of Belarus, 5 – Republic of Kazakhstan, 2 – Russian Federation, 7 – Republic of Uzbekistan, 3 – Ukraine, and 22 – Kyrgyz Republic. 

In total there were 76 participants, of which 60 were present in person, including 4 foreign participants: 2 2 from the Kazakh Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction (Almaty) and 2 from the Institute of Botany of NAS of Uzbekistan (Tashkent).

The conference discussed a wide range of subjects on introduction, proliferation, physiology, and selection of plants, plant conservation in-situ and ex-situ, greening and horticulture. The conference has reached its main objective in creating a discussion platform for exchanging best international, regional, and local experience in those spheres. The participants have remarked on the extensive work carried out by the organizing committee in preparing the conference and the high level of execution.

The materials of the conference are published in the proceedings, a special edition of the “NAS KR bulletin” that includes 19 articles, including 8 foreign and 11 from Kyrgyzstan, in Russian and Kyrgyz languages; a book and photoalbum “History of the Botanical Garden in photographs”, brochures, and postcard series «The plant collections of SRI E. Gareev BG of NAS KR».
